A NEW PRIZE FOR BOOKS SET IN CONTEMPORARY SCOTLAND
Floris Books has announced the first Kelpies Prize competition. The prize has been set up to encourage and reward new contemporary Scottish writing for children. The winner of the Kelpies Prize 2005 will be announced in August 2005 at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. The winning manuscript will be published in the Kelpies list in September/October 2005, and the author will receive a cash prize of £2,000.
The deadline for the submission of manuscripts is February 28, 2005. Manuscripts must be 40,000-60,000 words in length and may not have been previously published (although the author may have been previously published). The story must be set in contemporary Scotland and should be suitable for both boys and girls aged 9-12. Authors do not need to live in Scotland to qualify for the prize.
