AN EASY WAY TO SEARCH ON INDUSTRY LINKS

A free gift from our affiliate, Write4Kids.com: a Toolbar with Children's Publishing favorites already marked for you! Just go to http://www.write4kids.com/smart/setup.exe  choose "save file as" when prompted and download to your computer.

When you get there, you might want to save the file as Write4Kids Toolbar setup.exe so as not to confuse it with the other setup files in your computer. When it's loaded, go to the View command on your browser menu bar, then go to Toolbars and click the Write4Kids toolbar to enable it.

FREE NEWSLETTERS FOR WRITERS
You can sign up for these newsletters on their respective websites and they'll come regularly right to your email box. Of course, there are many more informative newsletters available for particular interests (geneaology, books, space, etc.). Look for them at your favorite research websites.

WRITING SOFTWARE

WRITE IT NOW: NOVEL WRITING SOFTWARE for writers who want a software application that will help them organize their writing, develop their characters, generate authentic names, and smash through writers block.

HISTORICAL RESEARCH

Thanks to writer Alan Fisk for recommending this site: The Historical Novel Society, international group devoted to promoting historical novels and their authors.

The Society of Creative Anachronism is a national group who celebrate the Medieval and Renaissance historical periods with Ren Faires and other live gatherings across the country. If you need a recipe for 12th Century beer, or pretty much anything else in these time periods, this is your source.

For information on resource books and (lucky you!) research travel to the British Isles, come check out King Arthur Books.com.

For general help from regional Historcial Societies, go to any search engine and type in "+Historical +Society +the region you need help with" and the search results should come back with a list of sites you can try. If the society doesn't have a Website, you can try any number of online Yellow Pages services, including Yahoo! Yellow Pages.

FUN WITH LANGUAGE

Now and then even the best writers have grammar questions. When I'm having trouble with punctuation or word usage, I always check my handy-dandy Nitty Gritty Grammar by the brilliant, lovely and talented writing duo, Edith Fine and Judith Josephson, affectionately known as the Grammer Patrol.

If you love just playing with words, you'll like Richard Lederer's Veribivore website. You can read his monthly column in Writer's Digest.

And for a fun trip down Etymology Lane, take a look at the Roots Web's Ye Olde English Sayings.

WRITING HOW-TO'S

Harold Underdown offers over 60 articles and interviews, plus lots of other information for writers and illustrators on his Purple Crayon site. This is a wonderful resource for both new and experienced writers and illustrators.

Margot Finke offers a critique service for beginning writers.   Step by step help and encouragement.  Very reasonable fees.  Check out her monthly "Margot's Musings" column,  writing helpers page, and self-editing tips.   http://www.underdown.org/finke.htm

iUniverse.com is a great resource site for writers of all levels, offering online workshops, an Author's Toolkit, and affordable print-on-demand publishing services.

Writer's Digest Magazine's website is full of information on the mechanics of the publishing industry, including how to submit manuscripts, how to make the most of writing conferences, marketing tips, and information on what publications are currently seeking manuscripts. One of my favorite things they offer here is the weekly email newsletter.

The Writer is online, too, and has a fresh new look and complete redesign of their website to go along with it. Find superb resource links for writers, job listings, classifieds, a bookstore, and great articles on the writing craft.

Poets & Writers has a fine site with all of their magazine contents, including their extensive lists of contests and poetry markets.

Writing World is run by Moira Allen, former editor of Inklings, and offers dozens of valuable links and hundreds of articles on various aspects of the business and craft of writing.

Write-Resource has Internet Links and other Resources for Writers, it also has Writing Terms, Inspirational Quotes, Event Calendar, and Writing Downloads.
